States Of Alteration

Evolve, in collaboration with OMZ, curated and implemented the exhibition States of Alteration by James Bloom, which was displayed at Foundry. The exhibition featured three bodies of work: Burner, Mass, and Recall.

Each project explores the evolving landscape of decentralized technologies and how they shape artistic practice, external interaction, and the construction of meaning.

At the heart of Bloom’s work lies the theme of transformation, the continuous recalibration of digital space in response to external conditions such as market forces, collective engagement, or the technical mechanics of blockchain systems.

These artworks do not exist as fixed entities, but as perpetually shifting states: unpredictable, self-referential, and shaped by the very structures they critique.

States of Alteration reveals a paradoxical truth: while blockchain systems aim for decentralization and openness, they simultaneously introduce new constraints, new architectures of control, impermanence, and conditionality.
